An overview on LittleBigPlanet Signature Series Guide

So you may have already heard about a 320-page book called “LittleBigPlanet Signature Series Guide” made by BradyGames and you may be wondering what this book covers and who this book is good for?

Here is a brief overview from my point of view:

The book is devided in tree major subjects:

  1. Basics, Story Mode
  2. Creating a level
  3. LittleBigTrophies
  4. Something cool!

In general, it’s a good looking, content rich book with a lot of pictures of Sackboy and LittleBigPlanet levels, so if you’re kinda obsessed with this character and you’re willing to collect everything related to him, this book is definitely a must have.

1. Basics, Story Mode

More than two third of this book, (Around 225 pages) is the detailed guide to pass all the 25 main levels and the Mini levels. It goes beyond just resolving puzzles and finishing the levels and it even shows you almost all the secret prizes and bubbles in each level. In one sentence, It spoils the whole story mode for you if you don’t use it wisely. That’s why some hardcore gamers are highly against these kind of books, ’cause it can take away all the fun parts and leave you with no challenge to finish the game with the highest score ever :) But WAIT! LittleBigPlanet has more to offer! Most levels have a special prize for people who’ve finished that level with “No Lives Lost“! Not this book, nor any other can show you how to finish a level with no lives lost!  It’s totally up to the player’s skills.

2. Creating a Level

This part is 75 pages long and contains useful information and examples about making and placing useful tools in your levels. I personally like the built-in tutorials and found them useful enough to start my own trial and error experiment to fully understand the tools, but if you like more in-depth details with some tips about when and where to use what (LOL), this part may be right for you!

2.5 Interviews!

Between part 2 and 3, there is 14-page part, containing interviews with Media Molecule team members, including Anton Kirczenow (Senior Programmer), Dave Smith (Co-Lead Designer), Jim Unwin (Interface Designer), Mags (Company Accountant), Marcos (Co-Lead Designer), Mark Stephenson (Game Designer) and Paul Davis (IT Manager). Personally I found this part pretty interesting.

3. LittleBigTrophies

Technically, it contains the same information you can find here. Trophies in LittleBigPlanet and how to get them all in 6 pages.

4. Surprise! Exclusive 2-Sided Foldout! This cute 97cmx27.5cm poster, fits perfectly on your wall or even door! There is only one problem! It’s 2-sided and I don’t know which one I like better :) Well, I guess it’s no longer a surprise ;)

Now what do you think? Is this book right for you?
